What a great day!

I turned a year older yesterday. It was a pretty good day. It started with our 4H group meeting here for our year end meeting. We were originally supposed to have it in May, but UB got sick and we had to cancel it.

So we decided we would have it here at my house. The kids had made kites during one of the meetings and they were to bring them so that they could fly them. The weather here had been in the 90's and very windy. So we moved the get together for the morning. That way we could avoid the hot heat and the wind.

The weather had been perfect. That is, until Monday. We woke up Monday to dark skies. No, it's not going to rain here, said the chief meteorologist. But what do you think happened? You got it, rain. It started pouring down at 9am. Right when things were supposed to start. People started showing up and we decided to go ahead and have the pinning ceremony and then people could leave.

I had 23 kids and 9 moms in my house. It wasn't bad. The kids all squeezed in the living room. They all received their pins and then ate a Popsicle. When the rain stopped for a while, they all went outside to run around. Then the 300 water balloons were brought out. It was cool and that didn't matter to the kids. The kids all chased each other throwing balloons and trying to get each other wet.

After balloons, they ran sack races and did the three legged race. AB and his friend were fast.

But they were no match for UB and his friend. They won the race and beat all the other kids.

Once everyone was gone, Hubster took me out to eat Pizza. Later that evening, I wanted a cake. You see, Hubster said he was craving a Pineapple Upside Down cake. I had thought about making me a cake, but nothing sounded good. That is, until Hubster said what he wanted.
Of course, I didn't have a box in order to make one, and because I was determined to make one, I made it from scratch. So there I am at 7pm making a Pineapple Upside Cake.
But it sure was worth it. This is all that is left from that round cake.
Want some?

Happy Birthday Adventure Boy

Last Tuesday was Adventure Boys birthday. He had been extremely excited because we let them pick what they want for breakfast, lunch and dinner. So he chose pancakes for breakfast, tacos (homemade) for lunch and frozen pizza for dinner. I know, those are such nutritious food choices, but hey, a kid only turns 7 once.

He had also received some money from some people. He wanted a certain nerf gun. He gives me the money and says, "here mom, it's to help pay for the gun I want" How sweet is that?

Then UB had one dollar, he combined it with AB's 2o something dollars and 0ff we went to the store to get AB his toy gun. We get to the store and AB says he wants to make sure he has enough money to also buy his little brother something. He picks out a gun (the one that he wanted) and then lets his brother choose a small gun and they go pay.

UB is thanking AB profusely for buying him a gun on AB's birthday. AB is quite proud of himself because I told him I was proud for thinking of someone else on his birthday.

Then we get home and they start shooting each other and fighting. That happy moment at the store was short lived.

Happy Birthday Hubster!

Hubster's birthday was Saturday. We actually went out on another date. I'm starting to enjoy these dates with my husband. I'm not used to them. We would go out on dates, but it was maybe once every 6 months or so. So I'm really liking this. Anybody want to volunteer to watch my boys anytime?

On Friday, my friend had invited my boys to a sleepover at her house with her 4 boys. A house with 6 boys. Wow! But the boys all get along and they have a great time together. So the boys left sometime in the afternoon and stayed the night.

Hubster and I celebrated his birthday at dinner time on Friday night. I knew Hubster wanted to work on his car Saturday and figured we would eat in after picking up the boys.

This was UB's first sleepover and AB's second one. It was actually strange to sleep in a house with no kids. I was enjoying the quiet, but at the same time, I missed the noise. We stayed up late watching a movie, but being old fogies, we had to turn the movie off because our sleep was being interrupted. I woke up at 8 the next morning on my own. I didn't have anyone standing 3 inches from my faces, scaring me out of my wits as they said "mom, what's for breakfast?"

The boys had made their daddy a homemade card and each had attatched something from their room to give to daddy for his birthday. UB's gifts consisted of a hot wheels car that he said was a collector car. It had apparantly been involved in a road rage battle with another car because the scratches on it told a story. He also put a paper clip, a rubber band, a pen, a pencil, a candy and some lint.

AB had made a card and taped some candy on the inside as well as a keychain with a Jeff Gordon mini car on it.

Nothing like having homemade gifts made with love.

My baby turns 5 today

Watch out people! There's a new Sheriff in town and he's 5 today!

We went to go buy UB's present yesterday, because I like to wait until the last minute. No, because Hubster has been working a lot lately and I just hadn't been able to go. Plus, I do like to wait until the last minute. That way if the boys change their minds on what they want for their birthday, I don't have to worry about it.

My friend went with us and she helped distract UB while AB and I purchased the gift, then went to put it in the car. I know that AB was excited about UB's birthday, but good grief, I made a mistake in letting him help me.

He didn't tell his brother what we bought him, but he kept telling him that he knew what it was. When we get home, AB wanted to know when we could wrap the present. He asked and asked until I finally got it through to him that when UB was in the shower, then we could do it.

The minute UB was in the shower, AB started saying "It's time to wrap mom, It's time to wrap".
Nothing I could do but get up from trying to relax and go wrap the gift. Then came the problem of where to put the gift. AB found a good hiding place and then proceeded to tell UB that it was in a specific location.

This morning, they woke up at 7am. Yippee for me. Hear the excitement in my voice?
UB wanted to know when he could open his gift. AB was telling him where the gift was. I got up to find this.
Now, I can hardly be mad when two brothers who fight a lot, sit quietly together on the couch acting like they love each other.
When dad got dressed, UB opened his present and this is what he got.
As I type these words, Darth Vadar or Darth Maul or Darth somebody and the Imperial something or other are waiting for me to build their ship that consists of 400 and some pieces.
I'm sure ya'll know what I'll be doing in between school lessons today. Playing Lego!!!
