To sleep or not to sleep

Ever since I can remember, I have always slept with more than one pillow. I never really liked to go to sleepovers when I was younger because I always wanted to take ALL my pillows. I know, I'm weird. I like to sleep in a room that is not only dark, but cold as well, then I add three pillows and I'm set to sleep.

When I got married, I brought my bad habit of three pillows. I have a body pillow and two king sized pillows. Poor Hubster has always allowed me and my entourage of pillows to sleep together. I give him a little more than half of our King size bed, while me and my pillows take up the rest. We like our space when we sleep.

So when we had kids, I taught them that nasty habit of more than one pillow. Both boys sleep with lots of pillows all around them. I'm apologizing right now to their future wives.

When Hubster is out of town, the boys camp out in my room. I don't get to hog up the bed while he's out of town. Someone else does that for me.

AB is usually the one that sleeps on the bed with me. UB likes his space. Alone. AB and I start off with three pillows each. His body pillow and two regular size pillows. So far so good. I can share. Half for him, and half for me. We are both having peaceful, wonderful dreams at this time.

But then, I think that AB practices his karate in bed or something, because next thing you know, he's scooting over to my side. Sleeps right in the middle, so I scoot over to the far side. AB is still having peaceful, wonderful dreams while my dreams are anything but.

Pretty soon though, his pillows are forgotten and he's hogging mine. Notice how I have only 1/4 of the bed while he has the rest. Motherly sacrifices people. Yeah, right! I end up sleeping on my back with my arms crossed and moving as little as possible. Sleep is still possible, but I have to kick AB over so that I can sleep with my pillow friends again.

When the night is over (usually at 7 am for AB), I'm grumpy and need a nap. AB however, is full of energy and ready to tackle the world. And as much as I complain about my kids, and would like to tell them to go sleep in their own rooms in their own beds with their own pillows, I won't. Because AB will wake up and sometimes give me a morning hug or kiss, or tell me he loves me at night before he goes to bed. And those are things that I would not get if I didn't let him hog up my bed while Hubster's away.

Call me crazy, but I"ll take those loving moments (as rare as they come) any day. And yes, I'll even sacrifice some sleep in order to get them.

Why do I even make plans!

Hubster went out of town yesterday and I had already planned on taking over the entire bed. I had big plans people. Plans to sleep right in the middle of the bed. Plans to rent a movie on Pay Per View and stay up late. Plans to read until the wee hours of the morning.

What I didn't realize was that the boys had plans of their own. Plans to bunk in my room while daddy is away. Plans to sleep on MY bed on daddy's side. So much for my plans.

Then things started to look up. We have some friends up from South Texas and one of the girls was going to spend the night here. Things were looking up for me because that meant that while she slept in the spare bedroom, the boys would move back into thier bedrooms.

So I went back to planning on once again sleeping in the middle of the bed, watching a movie, then reading.

Then it started to storm. I was NOT planning on that.

My kids are scared of the thunder and so is the little girl I inherited for the night. I let them stay up until 10pm because the cheif meteorologist said that this storm would go away by 10. WRONG.

As I was getting them ready to all sleep (in seperate sleeping bags) on the floor in Adventure Boy's room, a loud thunder roared and the lightning came flashing in the window. All six eyes looked at me with fear and I asked, "would you all rather go sleep in my room?" I didn't even finish my question before they were all out the door with pillows and blankets en route to my room.

We set a pallet on the floor for one, a sleeping bag for the other and another taking my middle spot on the bed. They quickly fell asleep and I came to watch TV in the living room.

So much for plans.

Another sleepless night

"Our Father in Heaven..." Matthew 6:9

*********************************************

Loren has been gone since Sunday. I don't sleep much during the time that he's gone. The boys camp out in my room, which makes me feel better, but I still hear lots of noises all the time. I know it's just my imagination, but it still sounds "real".

After the boys went to sleep last night, I noticed that the shop outside had the lights on. Isaac had been in it yesterday to find a long nail for an experiment. It was pretty late when I noticed the light on. My paranoia kicks in and I start to look out all the windows to make sure it's not someone breaking into the shop and is still out there. My dog is barking wildly outside, but of course she does that every night. That is when I start to hear noises. I thought I heard voices outside and am panicking. I call Loren, like he's going to be able to do anything a thousand miles away, but I tell him I'm going outside and he can call the police from his end if needed. Did I tell you that I'm paranoid?

I open the garage door and stand outside looking all around me. I do this so that if there is someone out there, they can have a good look at me and know that I will hurt them with some of the karate moves my son is learning. (Now I'm not just paranoid, but crazy as well). Cinnamon is barking towards the direction that I'm headed, but I'm determined to turn that light off. I have to save money on my electrical bill you know. Halfway to the shop, the sirens go off. I forgot to turn the alarm off. I'm in my night clothes and my slippers are too big for me. I almost fall head first in the gravel.

I manage to make it to the garage, but Cinnamon is as excited as I am. After finally moving her out of the way, I go inside the house to turn off the loud sirens going off. I'm still on the phone with Loren and he is trying to calm me down. I run to go check on the boys, but not to worry because their snores drowned out the sirens. They didn't even flinch.

I go back out to do what I'm determined to do, run back in the house, shut the garage door and lock myself back in my house. I again set the alarm and attempt to go to sleep. After watching some funny shows on TV, I'm ready to fall asleep. I'm so ready for my honey to come home.
